Dear Ali,

Thank you very much for your application and resume. Both were very
impressive! I will be able to check your references in the next two days.
In the meantime, since your resume and application were so impressive, I am
saving a spot for you in our program.

Pending good references, and I expect that they will be, would you be able
to come in to our office later this week for an interview?

I look forward to meeting you in person.

All the best!

Gail Schneider
Executive Director
The WISH List

DOES THAT NOT SERIOUSLY ROCK?!? Way to make a sick girl feel good again!

If you don't know, the WISH List is the Republican counterpart to EMILY's List. It raises money for pro-choice Republican women candidates. I've been a fan of the group for a long time and was looking forward to joining when I had the funds but now I'm gonna ge to work for them! WOOOOOOT.

I've got two applications down (National Republican Senate Committee and GOPAC), in the process of a third (White House) and have 6 to work on next week (Senate Foreign Relations, House International Relations, National Republican Congressional Committee, the RNC, the WISH List and Congressman Fitzpatrick). Go me.

(EDIT 3PM: NRSC and GOPAC done, WH in process, HIRC is taking on no more interns and RNC is giving me an offer to apply for their Eisenhower Program which gets P.A.I.D., all the other apps are still pending)

My dad's good friend Tim (a big lawyer here) and Ambassador Smith agreed to be two of my references! WOOT.

Time for a shower. WAWA love and Alexandria tonight!

The State Department asks summer intership applications to be in NOVEMBER FIRST. That's ridiculous. There goes that chance this summer.

But I'm building up a list of others to possibly apply to:
- Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (the new congressman from my district, I worked for his predecessor)
- White House
- National Republican Senate Committee
- National Republican House Committee
- Senate Foreign Relations Committee
- House International Relations Committee
- The WISH List
- International Republican Institute
- Republican National Hispanic Assembly

I've got my work cut out for me this February but I need a job and badly.

So my mom listens to a talk radio station from New Jersey in her car on the way to and from work each day and she's a fan of their afternoon show hosted by "The Jersey Guys". And a few weeks ago, the wife of the acting governor of New Jersey came out and said that she suffered from such severe postpartum depression that she thought about drowning one of her kids and microwaving the other. So yesterday the Jersey guys made a reference to that on their show.

Little did they know that as the show ended, the governor of New Jersey with several armed state troopers confronted one of the hosts out front of the studio and basically threatened to kill him and sue him for defamation. The radio station and the guys themselves continue to hold true to First Amendment rights and that they were only saying what his wife had said and plan to countersue the governor. And apparently this kind of behavior can get him kicked out of office which would make his successor like the fifth governor in like 8 years in NJ.

[info]meadowsoprano, what is your state coming to?

Because I basically spent my night at an Inaugural ball for free.  If you were watching CNN, I was underneath where Anderson Cooper (so hot in person) and Paula Zahn were reporting from the Freedom Ball at Union Station.  Even though I had to stand outside for almost 5 hours checking credentials and directing guests towards the security checkpoints, I still got to go in and party a little and more importantly...

I GOT TO SEE PRESIDENT BUSH AND LAURA BUSH!!!!!

I didn't see them all that well (I was like 50 feet from the stage) but I saw them.  Laura looked stunning in her cream colored gown.  George spoke for about 10 minutes, then danced with Laura and then left.  But still, I got to see the President.  I saw George H.W. Bush at the Capitol when I was little, I saw Bill Clinton's feet getting off the White House elevator and now Dubya.

In addition, I got to meet one of my favorite Senators, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.  I wrote a term paper on her last semester for Donna Brazile's class so it was a fun sort of closure.  And Ricky Schroeder (formerly of "Silver Spoons" and "NYPD Blue") was the emcee.

So yeah, tonight ROCKED.  And this will be far from my last inaugural ball.  Hopefully one day I actually get to go to one as a West Wing senior staffer.

I said it before and I'll say it again:

GOD BLESS AMERICA.

GOD BLESS AMERICA.

CNN (Anderson Cooper no less! <333) will be doing live coverage from the Freedom Ball at 7PM tonight so keep an eye out for me.  Unless you've got a ticket, stay away from Union Station tonight kids, cause it's gonna be crazy.

The whole volunteer process was completely unorganized and chaotic but I was able to overcome that and now I have my post. I'm going to be taking tickets and directing people outside the Freedom Ball at Union Station Thursday night. I work for an hour or two, get a free dinner and maybe see the First Family. All in all, not a bad deal. I'm not allowed to go into any more detail until after the fact, owing to the confidentiality agreement I signed. But I've got a cool security badge as a souvenir!

So yeah, now I'm tired, cold, hungry, in need of a shower, have 150 pages to read and am developing a cough. Oh joy.

Am I the only person in this country who is going to miss CNN's "Crossfire"? Am I the only person who grants that show more merit than most people? Am I one of the only people who largely disagreed with Jon Stewart's actions when he ripped them apart? Because it seems like I am. And it's pissing me off.

Jonathan Klein can suck it hard for siding with another network rather than the one he's working for. I would think that with the amount of political discontent in this country right now, there'd still be room for reasonable political debate. Yes, "Crossfire" gets heated and sometimes gets a little over the top but to say that there is no place for it anymore is completely unfounded. They are not a source for partisan hackery and their own hosts have not been afraid to disagree with their respective party leadership.

While "Inside Politics" allows for a minimum amount of debate, there is still a place for "Crossfire". FOX is useless for informed, bipartisan debate as is MSNBC. "Hardball" is a joke and the other shows only air once a week (the Sunday morning ones I mean). It's a shame that "Crossfire" has to go the way it is because it's going to leave a large hole. Not to mention getting rid of one of the only reasons for me to spend time on the GW campus. I guess they've gotta find something to fill the studio space now. I may not necessarily like Bob Novak much but I'm sure he can still handle hosting duties.

I really hate all this. I mean, my boy Tucker is getting his own primetime show on MSNBC (likely the 9PM slot vacated by Deborah Norville) but it'll definitely never be the same.

R.I.P. CNN's "Crossfire" (1982-2005).

Just a quick runthrough...

1. GTown 62 - Rutgers 55. It wasn't pretty but it was a win.

2. My application to work during Inauguration Weekend was approved. WOOT. I have a volunteer's dinner next Tuesday at Union Station to find out where I'll be working.

3. If anyone tells me any TAR spoilers before Friday, I will kill you.

4. My roommate's stuff is here, skis included, but she is not. And her cell phone continues to ring every 5 minutes. I did not miss that horrible polyphonic version of "Green Sleeves".

5. I love Sead Dizdarevic. But you knew that already. And apparently everyone loved "Tom and Jerry" when they were kids. Hmmm.

6. Bradley Whitford? Holy hell boy. You free Thursday at 1? Heh.

But this was too funny to not immediately update.

I'm in Chipotle with my dad not even an hour ago, wearing my GeorgeWTown shirt when a woman walks up to me and goes: "I like your shirt. Where are you from? IOWA?" and then just ran out.

Unfortunately we couldn't come back in time, just look at each other and laugh. I'm not even from a RED state let alone the Midwest. I'm from Pennsylvania bitch, a state whose margin of victory in the end turned out to be less than OHIO'S.

But I digress.

To echo Joe, I'm back but I already want to leave. December 17th is so close I can taste it.

I do now have "Hope Springs" on tape now though...great Colin movie if you haven't seen it. Yet another one that [info]kitsune714 must watch (AFTER TEOR of course).

Julia Roberts named her twins Hazel and Phinnaeus. WHAT. THE. FUCK? Those kids are already prime for a beatdown.

I have class in an hour and a half -_-

Is it Christmas yet?

I won my dorm's electoral prediction contest and now I'm a proud owner of a Barnes and Noble gift certificate. I still cannot believe that I got the exact electoral count (286-252) and Bush's margin in the popular vote (51-48%) exactly right. My dad thinks it's a sign. My friends think I should go to Vegas (I will in March...). But yeah.

Damn I'm good.

If the Wooteans are fighting, we're all doomed.

Can't we all just get along kids?

I stayed out of the BIB debates because I didn't want another Ledge/Burnish/BN/etc. Please, we're above bickering. We're all mature adults here. Therefore we should act like it.

WHY CAN'T YOU KIDS JUST GET OVER YOUR FUCKING ISSUES AND GET BACK TO WHAT REALLY MATTERS, making fun of dumbasses and uniting over how people suck?

Is this really the end of Wootea as we know it? Please no -_-

This needs to be read

This comes from my dear friend [info]blackmoons and I think all of you whining and crying need to read it.

"Okay, I belong to this other board for 20 somethings and everyone's all "we're gonna move to Europe, or Canada." FUCK YOU. You really think we have it so rough here? And then there are other people saying that only conservatives and republicans believe in America. FUCK YOU TOO.

Americans who love America believe in America, regardless of their party affiliation--why don't people understand this? I'm a Dem who has some conservative leanings, and I love this country. Why would I up and leave? You don't like what's going on? You don't pussy out. You stay and fight to make changes. I cannot fucking believe that people are that serious about moving to Canada. No offense to Kathryne, but I don't think it's the end-all-be-all place to go. They have problems too. Are these people gonna country hop when times get tough?

Did our forefathers pick up and move elsewhere when George III refused to give the colonies independence? Hell no, they fought a war. If you don't like what's going on here, you can fight a war too. It doesn't have to be bloody or hurtful--wage an intelligent war. Pick up your phones, log into your email, put your pen to the paper. Even you youngin's (Greg, Kate, Tchawa) can do it too. Especially you guys since you'll be able to vote in the next election in 2008. Show the leaders of this country that you're serious and maybe us young people (under 30 crowd) will start getting some respect.

I'm so tired of the bullshit and the whining. Sure, Kerry didn't win. Life goes on. I don't agree w/ everything Bush has said and I don't agree w/everything Kerry has said. Some of you might think Bush hasn't done this (what I'm about to say) but he did make a good point about having to be uniters. Maybe he tried, I don't know. But that's what we have to do--start the unification war. Read up on other people's beliefs--see why they feel the way they do. Ignorance doesn't lead to anything but idiocy."

Thank you for speaking the truth.

I reinstalled Windows...again. Hopefully this time it will work. I'm currently running Norton but I'm seriously considering buying the new Norton package that includes a firewall and spam/popup filters. I'm still wary of SP2 and a lot more friendly towards Norton so maybe this will do the trick.

I still think it was a virus though. And one implanted by Democrats. You never have and never will bring me down.

Seriously, I'm just joking, but I wouldn't put anything past anyone in an election. Nevertheless, I commend Kerry for being gracious in defeat and commend Dubya for being just as gracious in his victory. Arrogance and protests are the last thing our country needs right now.

Listen, if you're so serious, move to Canada, I don't care. But do you people really think we're going to hell just because 3 million more people disagreed with you? It's called democracy bitches, get used to it. Not everybody wins all of the time. Things are going to be different in this term, and I think a lot of Democrats will be surprised. America is only going up and if you're unwilling to work towards that, you should 1. not have any reason to complain and 2. should not share in the rewards.

So either shut up and compromise or get the fuck out of my country. Hey dissention, isn't Hell nice this time of year?

I'm soooooooooooo tired

First of all: FOUR MORE YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VIVA BUSH!

I stood for 12 hours at the Victory 2004 party (the official RNC party). I never got to see the President. We had to hear from CNN at 5:15 AM that he wasn't coming. I went to bed at 6 and just got up now. I am wasted, I have a migraine and my computer is seriously fucked. But I don't have time to fix it until later -_-

But...I did see some AWESOME people last night: Ed Gillespie (I took a picture for you [info]sarahrg, Secretary of Commerce Evans, Secretary of Education Paige, Bill Frist <333, Secretary of Interior Norton, Secretary of Energy Abraham, Secretary of Agriculture Veneman, Treasurer Rosario Marin, KAREN HUGHES and Don fucking King (yes the boxing guy!). WOOOOOOOOOOOT.

I'm skipping my 2:30 class so I can see Bush's victory speech (and Kerry's concession). After standing for so long and waiting it out, I owe it to myself to watch.

SHOUTOUTS: Thune in South Dakota (EAT IT DASCHLE!) and Fitzpatrick at home in the PA 8th district. WOOT.

EDIT'D: I GOT THE FINAL ELECTORAL COUNT AND THE POPULAR VOTE PERCENTAGES EXACTLY RIGHT! GO ME!
